Making Sure Your HIV Care Is the Best It Can Be: A Consumer Training Workshop Guide (pdf)
New York Department of Health AIDS Institute
New York, NY
2006

This training curriculum, available in English and Spanish, was revised in 2006.  The guide introduces people living with HIV to performance measurement, and helps build the skills consumers need to actively contribute to improvements in their own care.  The curriculum is presented as a facilitator guide designed for HIV patient educators, and outlines an interactive, modular workshop providing HIV care consumers with information and skills-building experiences in self-advocacy.

The tool consists of three items:
1. Facilitator Guide and Handouts for Consumer Workshop
2. Consumer Workshop Brochure
3. Literature Review

Please note that this is not a treatment education curriculum. A companion guide for providers, ‘Making Sure HIV Patient Self-Management Works,’ was developed by the National Quality Center in 2008 to introduce providers to self-management.
