This NQC Quality Academy Tutorial examines specifics relating to the role of measurement in quality improvement and answers the question: how do we select the measures we want to use to assess key aspects of care and services in our HIV programs? It offers suggestions on which elements your program should be looking at and how to decide what indicators to use.
This module outlines the technical steps to take in defining indicators. Much work has been done to create and define indicators relevant to all parts of HIV care. The National HIVQUAL Project, sponsored by HRSA and operated by the New York State Department of Health AIDS Institute, is a rich source of indicators on the quality of HIV care and this Tutorial uses these as examples of indicators you may want to consider developing.
