Black high-gloss latex, name of long-term AIDS survivor in the Columbus, Ohio area and prayer

24'' x 165''

2004

When I was first diagnosed with HIV, I was given 2 years to live.  I heard rumors of people who had lived for 4 years.   I hoped and prayed I could live that long.  Time passed and I survived.   This Road Tattoo is a tribute to HIV+ individuals who are survivors.  It commemorates individuals in the Columbus area living 5 or more years with AIDS.   Names of these people who would like to be commemorated in this work will be compiled.  Once Survivor's Knot is drawn on the road, the names of the survivors will be painted within the design.  A prayer officiated by a local religious leader will be said.   The City of Columbus will be invited to the prayer and to help write in the names.
