NQC Quality Academy: Measurement and Data in Quality Improvement - Overview

This NQC Quality Academy Tutorial presents an overview of the use of measurement and data in your quality improvement work and provides a general introduction to the very important role played by measurement and data in improving HIV care and services. It begins by explaining how measurement supports improvement and the interplay of measurement and improvement, and is followed by a discussion of the key steps involved in improvement. Topics include measurement, assessing variation, selecting areas to improve, managing projects, evaluating impact and acting on this evaluation. Finally, it discusses an organizational issue: how to create an environment where measuring performance is viewed as helpful, rather than threatening.

You will learn about…

  • Using measurement to support improvement rather than as an end in itself
  • Taking key steps towards improvement: measure, assess variation, act on data findings
